Charles H. Hecke was born on July 14th 1826, in Hanover Germany and died on October 15th, 1872 in Chariton County Missouri. He was the son of Henry Walter Hecke, born February 28th, 1808 in Germany and Magdalene Victerer.
Charles came to the United States in the middle of the 19th century. He married Ann Elizabeth Lambert in 1854. Ann was born in Scioto County Ohio (Virginia) on February 2nd, 1835 and died on March 29th, 1915 in Chariton County Missouri.

Charles Served in the 35th Enrolled Missouri Militia during the Civil War
"A Compendium of the War of Rebellion" by Fredrick H. Dyer, states: The 35th Enrolled Militia Infantry participated in operations against Shelby from Sept. 22 to Oct. 26, 1863. From October, 1863 they were at California Moniteau County. They were placed on duty in Northwest Missouri June, 1864, and on "Scout" in Chariton County July 27-30, 1864, and on the 30th were on Chariton Road near Keytesville and Union Church. On September 6, 1864, a detachment was involved in an "affair" (small combat) near Brunswick. Company I was at the surrender of Keytesville September 20, 1864.
